Internet Explorer web browser was developed by Microsoft and introduced on 16 August 1995 as a part of the add-on package Plus for Windows 95 that year. Why Internet Explorer is retiring
Internet Explorer browser had 95% of usage in 2003 but had very limited features and slow speed. When the Firefox browser launched in 2004. Internet Explorer usage share start decreasing, and in 2008 Google launched its Chrome browser which was getting popular among users because of its features, speed, and support on other devices.
Lots of browsers came into the market after 2004 with different features and support for the devices and internet explorer lost its usage share simultaneously. In 2016 Microsoft stops feature developments for Internet Explorer and launch its new web browser Microsoft Edge. Microsoft Edge was first bundled with Windows 10 and Xbox One in 2015 and was later released for other platforms like Android, iOS, Mac, etc.
Microsoft first ended the support of Internet Explorer in Microsoft Team on November 30, 2020, and then in Microsoft 365 on August 17, 2021. Now Microsoft is all set to discontinue Internet Explorer on June 15, 2022.
